Responding to Covid-19 (March 14, 2020)

With your deep interest in our community I want you to know how the Port Angeles Food Bank is handling the current situation to both provide healthy food to those who need our help, while minimizing health risks to volunteers, staff and the community we serve.

Currently we are following the advice of our emergency food providers, Washington State Department of Agriculture and our local Health Director, Dr. Unthank. Additionally we are monitoring the activity of the EOC as it provides updates about Clallam County daily.

In light of the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, the Port Angeles Food Bank has decided to go to an alternative method of distribution, as the health and safety of our community, volunteers, and staff are our highest priorities. We will continue to serve food by operating a “Drive-Thru” service. What will that look like? Our distribution hours will stay the same for now, only we ask that you make appointments if you are able to here. We will close our parking lot to cars, have a line for walkup customers, and have parking lot attendants to guide vehicles through the process of the drive thru system. Please show up at your appointment time, and not before. Volunteers will line you up, and place pre-packed food box/bags into your car for you and off you go.

*we are developing a plan for separate pick up locations and possible delivery - still not available at this time

As we continue to navigate through this new reality, we remain committed to the health and well-being of our community.

Distributing food in a time of spreading virus is new territory for all of us. The Port Angeles Food Bank is actively engaged with the Clallam County Emergency Operations Center and the County Health Department to be sure we safely meet the mission of Nourishing Our Community.
